Originals on Chapiteau
Rolf Knie's unique art on circus tent canvases fascinatingly combines life and art. These extraordinary works, created directly on the chapiteaus, are a powerful testament to his past as a clown and his deep connection to the circus.

How a Painting by Rolf Knie is Created
A painting comes to life long before the first brushstroke.
Only I can cut apart the old chapiteau. I cannot afford to waste any scraps. From a chapiteau with a diameter of 46 meters, about 300 paintings are created.
These old circus tents are made of cotton and were produced until the 1970s. Today, all are made of plastic... unfortunately. When I work with the chapiteau, many beautiful memories from my youth come to mind.

White Paintings
Rolf Knie's "White Paintings" challenge the viewer. He layers up to eight coats of white acrylic paint over his classic circus motifs, causing them to gradually fade. What remains is a hazy veil that invites a deceleration and deep contemplation.
